If you live anywhere in the north east you’re probably like me wishing this winter over. Granted where I live has seen nothing compared to what Boston’s winter has been like but still we’re getting enough snow, sleet and freezing rain on what seems like a every few day cycle that it’s starting to get old and old quick.
In addition to all the precipitation we have been dealing with some seriously cold temperatures. It was so cold that the personal weather station I run from my house recorded the lowest temperature to date at 1.9 degrees. This is dam cold.
As you can expect when you live in a coastal community the cold weather can provide opportunities to see nature at it’s finest. One of the most fascinating things is when the Raritan & Sandy Hook Bay freezes over with pack ice. You know it’s cold when this open body of salt water turns to ice.
The ice has cause a number of problems with commuter ferries and commercial marine traffic. The New York Waterway ferry which provides service from Belford to New York City had to be escorted in and our of it’s home port by a tug boat. The tug helped push the pack ice out of the way providing safe passage.
There is no end in sight with temperatures going to plummet into the 20’s again with overnight lows in the teens all I have to say is that spring cannot come soon enough.
