Greg and Stephanie’s Wedding.

I have a confession. I am not a wedding photographer. I’ve been asked to shoot many weddings over the years and I’ve turned down all of them. The reason isn’t because I’m not confident in my capabilities it’s just that wedding photography has just never been my cup of tea. This doesn’t mean that I don’t try to refine the art of quality wedding photography where possible.

One of those opportunities was the wedding of Greg and Stephanie Hughes where I attended as a guest with my girlfriend Stacey. This wedding was different for me as I’ve never attended a casual country style barn wedding before this day. All of the weddings I had attended previously were tradition celebrations with a church ceremony and reception at a indoor facility. This departure was actually quite refreshing.

The barn was located on the property of Tinicum Park in Bucks County Pennsylvania. The location was beautiful sitting right at the foot of the Delaware Rive and the park itself was a pristine example of nature.

The ceremony was what you’d expect to see at a wedding except the outdoors made it feel all that different from the procession of brides maids and groomsman, the bride being walked down the isle by her father and then the ceremony itself. Being seated on a aisle I had the opportunity to lean out an make an image but being a guest of the wedding I wanted to do this without being intrusive so I shot when I could, where I could.

All of the image you’ll see in this post with just 2 Canon prime lenses a 24mm 1.4 and the 85mm 1.2. I chose these lenses because they are in relation to all of my other equipment are the most compact in size. Like I said as a wedding guest, not working in any professional capacity, didn’t want to stand out or get in the way and so these photographic tools allowed me to do both stealthily.

A fun part of the wedding was the procession where the typical rice or bubbles used to wish the bridge a groom a life of happiness were replaced with paper airplanes. The planes were already provided to you as they were the wedding program which was quite clever. That moment made for interesting images… some people had REALLY good aim.

The first dances were next resulting in my favorite image of the night. It’s a ‘moment’ that most photographers are looking to achieve when photographing weddings.

I just love the image above. The remainder of the ‘first dances’ also have those elements you look for of that moment.

The rest of the night it was just fun on the dance floor.
